Here we are getting ready to start a New Year. 2017 is gone and 2018 has just begun. As we get start a New Year, I want to challenge you to make a commitment right now to make 2018 a year where you will do what you need to do to grow closer to God. I want to challenge you to make a commitment to do the things that Jesus did, to commune with the Father on a regular and constant basis so that when you’re put to the test you will do what Jesus did.
To help us in this commitment, this month we are beginning a new series I’m calling “The Mystery of Prayer.” The Bible challenges us to devote ourselves to prayer. In Colossians 4:2 we read, “Devote yourselves to prayer with an alert mind and a thankful heart.” But what is prayer? Someone said that, as Christians, we must live in a spirit of prayer. We are taught to pray as we walk; to pray when we lie down and when we get up. And then we need to realize that in prayer, all the answers to life are always coming together.
In this series we want to explore how we can live this out, how we can devote ourselves to prayer. A simple working definition of prayer is communicating with God. That sounds simple enough, but what does it really mean to communicate with God? What is really involved in communicating with God? What does that look like?
Plan now to join with us each week this month as we will begin to answer these questions. It is my prayer that in this series we will better learn to devote ourselves to prayer, because nothing will encourage growth in our relationship with God more than spending time with Him in prayer.
Peace and Blessing,
“Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you.” Matthew 7:7 (NLT)
