One of my favorite people in the Bible is a man whom we don’t even know his name. His story is in Mark 9. He came to Jesus and said, “Have mercy on us and help us, if you can.”
23 “What do you mean, ‘If I can’?” Jesus asked. “Anything is possible if a person believes.”
24 The father instantly cried out, “I do believe, but help me overcome my unbelief!” (Mark 9:22b-24 NLT)
What I really like about this guy is his honesty before Jesus. He had heard and seen what Jesus could do; healing people with all sorts of illnesses and delivering them from the evil spirits that tormented them, and he held onto a hope that Jesus could help him as well.
I can identify with this guy. I do believe in Jesus. I believe that He is who He says He is, and He is able to do anything and every thing. But to be totally honest, I have to admit that there are times when doubts creep in and my faith is not what I would like it to be. That’s when I pray the same prayer this man prayed, “Jesus, I do believe, but help me overcome my unbelief.”
I think all of us can relate to that. We have faith, but we want to have more faith. In this story, Jesus tells us that “Anything is possible if a person believes.” I want that kind of faith. I want all of us to have that kind of faith. And that kind of faith grows in us as we spend time with God. That is why spending time with God every day is so important. So I want to encourage you as the business of spring and summer begins to creep into our schedules that you do not neglect your daily time with God, meeting with your small group or attending the Sunday service.
It is during this time of year when we see, in the vineyards and orchards, that growth happens and fruit is produced. It is my prayer that this season would be a time where our faith grows and that we will see the fruit that it produces.
So , as Hebrews 10:25 says, “Let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.” (NLT)
Peace and Blessing,
