Without exception, it is always best to serve with other people than it is to serve by yourself. And there are a lot of reasons for that. One is that it increases your influence because you are a part of something that is bigger than yourself. Also, when you’re a part of a team, just being around the other individuals makes you better, you learn from them and they challenge you to grow. And your influence makes them better as well.

Here’s the principle: never do anything by yourself that you can do with others. Never make the mistake of thinking that you don’t need anyone else. In the end, you will be less successful, less happy and less influential. You need to find ways to be on a team.

Last month, Theresa shared with us about Teach 1 to Lead 1. Things are progressing. The Madera School district has approved purchasing the curriculum for 170 students to be able to go through the program this next school year. Now she is looking to build a team of volunteers who will go into the classrooms and mentor the students. I would encourage you to ask God if this something that He would have you get involved in.

Each year since 2008, in July we have sent a mission team to VICENTE GUERRERO Mexico. Normally, that team builds a 16X24 cinderblock home for a family in need. This year, they will focus their efforts on fixing up the Welcome Home Outreach campus that is in need of repairs. However, it’s the friendships and the sense of belonging to something bigger than oneself that is the reward for those who go and serve on the team.

As a church family, the city of Madera has asked us to adopt a mile of the bike trail from Granada west to the end of the trail. We have committed to spending time out there, cleaning up and maintaining the trail three times a year. We are working on a date for our next trip out there. Be watching for details.

If you would like to be a part of any of these teams, you can let us know by marking the appropriate box on your Connection Card during our Sunday morning service. And again, for those who chose to be involved, there is a sense of joy and happiness that comes from serving with others that makes it well worth the effort.

There are all sorts of teams that you could hook up with to serve. Or if you see a need and feel as if God is calling you to do something about it, let me know and look at building a team to take it on. It always best to serve with other people than it is to serve by yourself.

Peace and Blessing,

Pastor Mike
