These three words appear on the front of our bulletin every week. These three words give us direction as a church body as to where we are headed. These three words tie into Jesus’ first and last commands to His disciples during His earthly ministry.
Those commands are:
Matthew 4:19, – Jesus called out to them, “Come, follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people!” Matthew 4:19 (NLT) and Matthew 28:18-20, – Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. 19Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. 20Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:18-20 (NLT)
Draw: Jesus has called us to follow Him. He said, “Come.” Jesus draws us to Himself desiring that we choose to enter into a personal relationship with Him. And just before Jesus ascended into heaven, He said, “Go.” His command is for us to go and draw others to Him.
Develop: Jesus said, “Follow me, and I will show you how …” As we follow Jesus and allow Him to teach us, we allow Him to develop us into the followers He desires us to be. We are also to make other disciples, teaching them to obey all the commands He has given us.
Demonstrate: Jesus said that we will “fish for people.” As we demonstrate the love Jesus has shown us to those we meet, they in turn will be drawn toward Him. All authority has been given to Jesus and it is on His authority that we go and demonstrate the power of His love everywhere we go. We are to begin right here where we live and move out, even to the ends of the earth.
Putting this all together in a statement that will help us focus on where we are to go: We are to Draw people into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Develop believers into fully devoted followers of Jesus. And we are to Demonstrate the power of Christ’s love to the community of Madera and around the world.
We exist to Direct people into a Dynamic relationship with Jesus Christ.
